Sunnydale Research Club / 2025-26

What We’ve Done So Far

From our first research guidelines to investigations beyond the classroom.

Our Journey

  1. 01

The Sunnydale Research Club (SDRC) was founded in August 2025 with the aim of making research more accessible to students and of promoting a culture of scientific inquiry at Sunnydale. In the year that has passed, the club has grown from being a new club to becoming one of the school's foremost academic organizations.

  2. 02

We started off by drawing up our Standard Operating Procedures, research guidelines, and peer-review process, and at the same time launched our official website, sdrc.xyz. Our members also took part in IARCO, where they acquired skills in carrying out literature reviews and in academic writing, two of them reaching the Top 20 of the international event.

  3. 03

For the rest of the year SDRC arranged workshops on research methods and carried out a school-wide study survey in order to investigate the ways in which students approached effective learning. The following academic departments were formed—Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Technology, Biology and Social Science—which then formulated research questions and started to design their own investigations.

  4. 04

The Chemistry Department is researching the effect of pH on the efficiency of natural water purifiers, examining how changes in pH influence their ability to purify contaminated water.
The Social Science Department is researching the socioeconomic trends that contribute to the increasing number of rickshaw pullers and their effects on the economy, exploring the factors behind this trend and its broader economic implications.
The Technology Department is researching how regularly people in Bangladesh use AI and estimating the carbon footprint generated by daily AI usage, aiming to understand both the prevalence of AI use and its environmental impact.
The Physics Department is researching friction-generated sound on different surfaces in relation to their coefficients of friction, with the goal of identifying the relationship between friction and decibel levels and determining the conditions that could help reduce noise pollution.
The Mathematics Department is researching probabilistic modelling of diseases using metapopulation dynamics, using mathematical and computationalmodels to study how diseases spread across interconnected populations.

  5. 05

From 2026 each department started planning and the development of methodology for their research paper. In March and April our work was put in hold due to CAIE examinations. In July our Tech department carried out an AI survey in our school to find out how different people perceive and use each artificial intelligence model as part of their research paper. In August 2026, the Mathematics department finished their research paper and sent it to get peer reviewed. The Physics and Chemistry teams performed laboratory experiments and gathered experimental data for their research paper—which was the first time that our school had arranged such an external laboratory session.

  6. 06

We also arranged educational research visits. We got permission and then selected 20 students to visit the Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF) on 30th september 2026. It gave them an opportunity to observe and learn from researchers and scientists working with advanced laboratory equipment and techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc. SDRC also proposed and initiated a whole day visit to the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Savar, for class 11 and 12 on October 8th and 11th respectively, giving students the opportunity to experience scientific research beyond the classroom.
